2:08 AM Feeding Lovebirds |
Like most species of pet birds, Lovebirds thrive well with variety in their diet. The usual practice of offering a pure seed diet to birds has been shown to result in nutritional deficiencies and serious health problems including kidney disease, obesity, liver disease, and heart problems. A bird will only have insufficient intake of nutrients from a pure seed diet. Even if it’s labeled “fortified seed diet”, the ration will still fall short of your pet bird’s dietary needs since it will leave the hull uneaten and eat only the inside of most seeds. As a result, a bird won’t be able to get nutrients abundant on the hull. To make sure your Lovebirds’ basic nutritional needs are met daily, provide them with a good quality pellet diet. Seeds should only be a portion of your pet’s daily ration. Commercial pellets are specially formulated to meet the birds’ dietary requirements and can easily be bought at pet stores.
