8:53 AM Breed Profile: Great Dane |
The Great Dane is a giant dog breed that came from Germany, where they were originally bred for boar hunting. Over time, the breed became popular as a watchdog and companion. Often referred to as “gentle giants”, Great Danes are well loved for their warm temperament and friendliness. Unfortunately, like most dog breeds of this size, they tend to have a shorter lifespan than the average canine. This is an important reason to keep your Great Dane healthy. The breed’s short haircoat only needs routine grooming, although their floppy ears need regular cleaning and routine ear checks. Taking their size into consideration, Great Danes and their owners will benefit from proper training and socialization. More often than not, your Great Dane don’t realize the implications of their large size, so there is really a need to put emphasis on prevention of jumping, leash pulling, and even leaning. If you are having problems with your puppy's behavior, talk with a pet clinic Carlsbad. |
