One of these medical conditions that may affect the GIT of cavies is ileus. It is characterized by the accumulation of gases in the stomach and intestines brought about by a defect in peristalsis (i.e. normal rhythmic movement of the GIT). Affected cavies often stop eating; this, and the buildup of gases can lead to a life-threatening condition that warrants prompt medical intervention. Ileus can also occur when cavies are exposed to stressors and stop eating, or secondary to a medical condition. There are many important reasons why you should ditch your pet’s collar and let him wear a harness instead. First, it is a safer alternative to dog collars. Second, a harness allows you to have better control of your pet’s movements; your dog won’t be able to run away during outdoor excursions and be exposed to risks that abound outdoors. A harness will also come in handy in these situations--
- It helps you get a large and heavy dog in and out of the car
- A harness can provide adequate support for paralyzed dogs
- A harness will also come in handy when you have a dog with mobility problems caused by amputation or osteoarthritis or severe arthritis.
- After surgery, a dog will need a harness to restrict and control his movements while he is recuperating.
