Even if your cat has taken well to the pet food brand that you are giving him now, there may come a time when you need to switch your kitty’s food to another brand. Whatever the reason may be for the change, it must be done gradually over a period of 10-14 days to ensure that your pet won’t have any digestive upsets.

Here are some reasons that may warrant switching your kitty’s pet food to another brand:

Your pet is diagnosed with a health condition that needs a special prescribed diet.

The pet food brand is not always available in stores.

You want to change your pet’s food to a premium quality product which you think is of a higher quality.

The adjustment period will give enough time for your pet’s digestive system to get used to the new pet food. If your cat is quite finicky, he may need a longer period of transition. However, most cats will take to new pet food witho ... Read more »

Many cat owners shower their pets with treats and lots of affection. Pampering your kitty with love and affection is definitely a plus; however being lavish with treats is another story.

Treats are additional sources of calories that many pet owners tend to ignore or are not aware of. Offering treats every day can make your cat pile on the pounds and becoming obese. This is one important predisposing factor of obesity among pets.

Quicker results are often attained when treats are used as part of positive reinforcement. Considering the calories that your kitty can get from treats, make sure they make up only a small part of your pet’s daily diet. It is recommended that treats be only 10% of the total calories consumed by a cat in a single day. Ninety percent of a cat’s daily food intake should come from nutritious and high-quality ingredients.

Your feline is, to its perception, doing no wrong in its own territory.

However, your perception probably does not agree with your cats “glossing over” of wrong doing in your home.

Your cat does not understand scolding, it may understand that it has done something that it has been scolded for in a prior situation, but is it really unable to show regret or submission like a dog does.

Why does your cat behave in an arrogant manner about something that has upset you?

Sensing that you are upset is something your cat comprehends, but unless you act on situations immediately as they happen, your cat has long forgotten what could have made you so upset.

Dogs tend to keep memory of their wrong doings, cats just simply brush everything off and move onto the next ... Read more »

You may not think so, but a string of Christmas lights, especially the smaller bulb ones, are very enticing for your cat to chew on.

The wiring and the bulbs all pose a huge danger and health risk to your cat as the bulbs could crack or break inside of your cat’s mouth and cut it or, the plugged in string of lights could give your cat an electrical shock.

Almost everything that you would consider Christmas decorations are a danger to your very curious and courageous cat, it will chew and lick and maybe even swallow everything it can reach.

You have double the trouble.

In your absence from home, your dogs would obviously see that as the prime opportunity to get into mischief and there is usually one dog who is the “brains” of the team.

Depending on the breeds of your dogs and just how much they are willing to knowingly cross the line, is going to dictate just how much mischief they will get into to.

The longer you are gone from home will also play a big part, but you can be sure that your dogs will soak up every single minute, in order to explore and do things they normally would not do in your presence.

One way to keep the “mischief team” from doing too much damage around your home in your absence, would be to separate them into different rooms or, put them both into the yard to expend some of that energy safely and with ... Read more »

A cat with “behavioural issues” is one of the so-called reasons that some people relieve themselves of cat ownership, claiming that their cat is just too difficult to handle (these people should never consider becoming parents, you cannot give human babies back to the stork).

Giving up on a cat because it does not act ideally to suit a person’s lifestyle is wrong on so many levels.

Most cats do not mysteriously invent or make up their behaviour for no reason, they are either responding because of a medical problem that has not yet been dealt with or, the cat is reacting to something that is wrong in its environment, pretty clear cut right?

Either of those scenarios are…..the responsibility and the direct cause of the cats owner, lack of interest in its health by avoiding veterinarian visits or, ignoring the issues within ... Read more »

It is only a matter of time before your cat discovers the interesting little pieces of a puzzle that you have left unattended (this will probably transpire when you are asleep at night). Your cat will just swat at the pieces, maybe lick at them to see if they are edible and most likely will bat a few onto the floor for further investigation. If your cat realizes that small puzzles pieces will fly across a smooth floor if batted at with its paw, the real fun would begin.

As long as your cat does not chew on and swallow these pieces, it will soon learn that playing a sort of “self-hockey” can be fun. At the time that you realize you have puzzle pieces missing, you actually may want to eye your cat’s stool to see if any puzzle pieces come out in the stool, which of course, would solve your mental puzzle.
