Sneezing is a common occurrence in humans and many animals including the Syrian hamster. In most cases, an occasional sneeze here and there is a harmless occurrence. However, if your Syrian hamster is sneezing excessively you should call your vet to schedule a wellness exam. Constant sneezing could be a sign of a more serious illness. For instance, excessive sneezing could be an indication of allergies, a cold or even the development of an infection. If your Syrian is sneezing a lot, check o see if he has a runny nose or watery eyes. Ask yourself if you’ve noticed a change in behavior. Watch out for coughing as well as a change in appetite. Always let your vet know about your hamster’s symptoms and alert him of any sudden changes. A cold can turn into pneumonia pretty quickly for hamsters.
