How to Treat a Persian cat with Gingivitis

Did you know that more than 80 percent of all pets, including Persian cats, three years and older develop some form of gingivitis? Common signs to look out for in your Persian include red or swollen gums. The inflammation is generally more visible on the side of the gums facing the inner cheeks. If your Persian has been diagnosed with gingivitis, your vet may recommend some at home steps to help fight the disease. For example, you may be instructed to brush your Persian’s teeth at home on a regular basis. Your vet may also want to schedule more frequent professional teeth cleanings for your cat. Other steps to take include the possible removal of overcrowded teeth or baby teeth that are present in your adult Persian. If your Persian responds well to initial treatment, your vet may schedule additional cleanings every six months to a year. Talk with your vet Southside, IN if you have further questions.
