A ferret’s ears will benefit greatly from regular cleaning. Before undertaking the task of cleaning your pet’s ears, be sure you know the correct way to do it to avoid any injury.

From a bottle of ear cleansing solution, pour a small amount into a small container. While holding your pet ferret by its scruff on a countertop or table, dip a Q-tip into the solution and gently clean each ear. Don’t go deep into the ear canal for you may rupture the sensitive ear drums. Use the dry side of the Q-tip to absorb the excess moisture once you have thoroughly cleaned the ear. Always use fresh Q-tips for each ear.

A visit to your Markham veterinarian is needed if you observe your ferret scratching excessively or showing any of these signs—excess build-up of ear wax that may be black or reddish-brown in color, or any ear discharge.
