Can my Bombay get Heartworms?

It’s safe to assume that most, if not all, cats are susceptible to heartworms if they are not on a heartworm prevention program. If you own a Bombay or any breed of cat, please talk to your vet about heartworms and how to protect your cat. Heartworms are foot-long worms that are capable of invading the heart, lungs and blood vessels of your cat. The disease is transmitted through mosquitoes. Some cat owners believe regions of the U.S. are more prone to heartworms than others and may not see a reason to protect their cat. Heartworm disease; however, has been diagnosed in all 50 states. It should be assumed that the risk is present everywhere. Because of this, it is most often recommended that all cats be on a monthly heartworm prevention program.
