Did you know that dogs that are diagnosed with canine diabetes may need to have their blood sugar levels tested on a daily basis? If this is the case for your Black Lab then your vet may suggest testing your dog’s blood sugar level at home on a handheld meter or device. Many pet owners simply use a handheld glucometer designed for people since it is considerably cheaper than pet glucometers. If your dog will not allow you to test his blood then you may have to go in to the vet’s office for frequent testing. Some dog owners will test their dog’s blood by pricking the marginal vein in the ear to obtain a blood sample. A sample can also be taken from your dog’s front paw. Make sure the blood drop makes it onto the strip and then insert the strip as directed. Compare the reading with most recent reading from your veterinary clinic Crown Point, IN.

If you find bites on your rabbit that could be from a tick, give your vet a call as well. Your Californian may have a tick bite or it could be a sting or bite from another insect or pest. Your vet should be able to help pinpoint the bite and identify its source. If it is a tick, you will need to conduct a thorough search for additional ticks on your rabbit. Although many television shows, comic strips, and other stories about cats tend to portray cats as lovers of all things milk, the product itself is actually not recommended for cats. Your vet can tell you that not all cats including your Siberian should drink milk as it may be hard for them to digest. Although young cats or kittens are able to digest milk, it is believed that as they age they lose the enzyme that enables digestion. The main reason for indigestible milk is the lactose inside. Your Siberian may not be able to digest lactose. If this is the case, it will ferment in the stomach causing diarrhea or in worse cases vomiting. Symptoms of lactose intolerance usually occur within 8 to 12 hours. If your Siberian cat has diarrhea or is vomiting, please call your veterinary clinic Leesburg, VA right away.
