You don’t have to bathe your guinea pig often. Frequent brushing and keeping the cage clean helps keep your guinea pig clean. However, occasionally your guinea may step in feces or urine-soaked bedding or something may spill on him. Then you’ll need to give your pig a bath. Gather all supplies in one place. Bathe your guinea pig in a shallow basin with a towel in the bottom so your pig doesn’t slip. Wet your pig with lukewarm water and lather him up with shampoo manufactured for small animals. Avoid getting soap in your pig’s eyes, nose or mouth. Don’t forget to soap up the groin are, in your pig’s armpits and in between the toes. Rinse thoroughly. Dry with a towel and brush your pig. Keep your guinea pig warm while he is drying. Perhaps wrapping him in another dry towel will hasten drying. For more information, contact your Arlington, TX veterinarian.
