Like flat-nosed dogs, a cat with a snub nose certainly looks incredibly cute. They may seem to be wrinkling their little noses all the time. Here are some popular breeds of flat-nosed cats:

Persians

Among the flat-nosed breeds of cats, Persians are among the most popular. These cats have been around for centuries. Besides their flat noses, Persians are also adored for their big and expressive round eyes. They have soft glossy coats that make them appear twice their size.
Himalayans

Himalayan cats are the results of crossing Persians and Siamese cats. Their short, flat noses are inherited from the Persian cats. Being playful by nature, they love spending time with the human members of the household.

Do you know that a group of cats is called a “clowder” while a group of kittens is called a “kindle”?

Even if you own a cat for quite some time, there are some interesting facts that you may not know yet.

  • In the US, cats are more popular pets than dogs. The most popular breeds include the Maine Coon, Ragdoll, and Bengal, although mixed breed cats are quite common.
  • The African wildcat is considered as the ancestor of domestic cats. Cats were considered sacred in ancient Egypt. In fact, cats where often mummified and placed in tombs. However, during the Middle Ages in Europe, cats became associated with the devil and many were burned during religious ceremonies.
  • Kittens are born blind and deaf, and fully dependent on their mothers during the first few weeks. Their eyes start to open at 10 days, though it will take a few more weeks for their eyes to be able to focus properly. Their ears open at about 2 weeks old.

An excellent cat litter has good absorbent properties that go a long way in ensuring that your pet’s litter box remains clean and odor-free.

The most absorbent cat litter available in the market is silica gel or crystal. It is able to absorb 40 times its own weight. The litter is composed of silica dioxide sand combined with water and oxygen. Because of its capacity to absorb lots of liquid, this type of cat litter can last longer than clay litter, up to a month when daily cleaning and stirring is undertaken. There are also brands of crystal litter that are biodegradable and can be flushed down the toilet. These types are considered more eco-friendly than clay litter. Silica litters are also virtually dust-free, which is ideal for your cat’s sensitive respiratory system.

Crystal litter is not without its drawbacks. Your cat may get sick when he tries to eat the litter. If the litter reaches its maximum absorbency, it can no longer hold urine, which ... Read more »

Pythons and boas are non-venomous species of snakes; however they can grow to a length of 12-15 feet and can weigh up to 300 pounds. If you own a boa or a python, you should understand that adults need extensive care, and you will have to make a large enclosure that will demand substantial time for clean-up.

Pythons and boas in captivity are often fed rodents. Small snakes eat juvenile mice or rats, while larger snakes are given adult rodents, chickens, or rabbits.

Contrary to the popular belief that it is best to give your snake live preys, it is recommended to give whole animals that have been pre-killed. Live rodents, such as rats, can bite or scratch your pet, causing severe damage and potentially death, regardless of your snake’s size.

You can also give frozen pre-killed animals that are available commercially. Freezing can kill parasites and/or potential pathogens that may infest or infect your pet snake.  Frozen prey is also less expensive a ... Read more »

A cat always has to be on the alert, for worry that a predator may jump out at any moment and attack!

…or, at least, this is what your cat’s almost always thinking to itself.

It is to be elucidated that a cat has famously sharp senses, and really good hearing to boot. It’s that good hearing, ironically, that makes a cat jump so badly at sudden noises.

If a cat is focusing very intently on something that interests it, it may become so lost in thought that you might be able to come up behind it and yell “BOO!” and watch in amusement as your cat leaps about 3 feet in the air, its heart pounding away.

It may be funny to see, but it is absolutely cruel to do such a thing to a cat, knowing you’ll frighten it. Cats can have heart attacks too, you know!

If you want to know more about cats and things that scare them (in other words, things you should help your cat avoid, not endorse) you c ... Read more »

Certainly, they can.

The idea of two animals of the same gender having intimate relations is very common in the animal kingdom. Humans view the idea with such distaste because of the ideas we’ve given ourselves over generations.

To a male dog, mounting another male dog is not wrong at all. In fact, the male dog would probably enjoy it just as much as if he mounted a female dog.

So, the concept of homosexuality has been around in the animal kingdom as far back as the animal kingdom existed. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if it even existed in the days of the dinosaurs.

So, if you have a pet that’s attempting actions with the same gender, keep an open mind and realize that your pet just really wants some company.

You’ve probably seen it countless times.

Right before a cat goes to jump up on whatever it’s jumping on, you see your cat wiggle its rear right before doing this.

Most times, your cat wiggles its rear in order to help position itself before the jump. At the same time, your cat is also doing it in order to prepare its legs for the jump, for you see…a cat’s rear legs are like springs; you coil them up, and they bounce outward. A cat’s legs are the same, and your cat wiggling its rear is it preparing for such an event.

Believe it or not, if your cat does not coil its legs before jumping, it has a high chance of not jumping very high at all, and it ends up landing short of its target.

You can research more on this by clicking on this link for the veterinary clinic Westheimer Highway 6.
