Why Cats Purr?

Like other animals, felines show various types of behavior, some of which can easily be understood while others continue to be studied by animal behaviorists. If you have a cat, you may have surely come across specific cat behaviors that may be hard to decipher.

One distinct behavior associated with cats is “purring”. Many theories are constantly advanced in an attempt to define and interpret this unique vibrating sound.

Very young kittens already purr; the behavior is said to be acquired from their mother who purrs to comfort her kittens. Mother cats also purr to calm her litter and avoid attracting potential predators.

There are different types of purr. A healthy cat gives off a different purr compared to a sick cat, which seems to make the sound as an effort to sooth himself.
