3:08 AM When Your Normally Docile Dog Bites Your Child |
Your dog just bit your child. Your child is screaming and crying and your dog is trying to hide from you…what just happened? Your dog has never shown any aggressive tendencies ever, let alone willing to bite your child or anyone else! Your first reaction is to find the dog and hurt it, even before you have checked to see how minor or major the bite mark is on your child. Stop and count to ten…the chances are almost 100% that your child hurt your dog and the dog reacted naturally… Children don’t know any better. They like to pull and step on a dog’s ears, tail, fur, and maybe even hit the dog hard with a toy repeatedly. If you were in another place for a long period of time, you should assume that your child was unsupervised and was probably at your dog the entire time (so your child provoked the dog). If your dog is hiding, then it already knows it is in trouble and no further action is needed by you. Your child just learned that the dog will hurt back.
