Mouth Rot in Bearded Dragon Lizards

Mouth rot can be a common health condition in a variety of reptiles including lizards and iguanas. Mouth rot, also known as necrotic stomatitis, is the presence of inflammation in the mouth or the oral cavity of your Bearded Dragon. The condition generally appears as small hemorrhages on the gums or as excessive amounts of mucus in the mouth that may contain blood or pus. Lesions and hemorrhages could also appear on the inside edge of the Bearded Dragon’s lip area. When mouth rot occurs your Bearded Dragon may have a severely swollen mouth and may appear to be breathing through his mouth. In most cases mouth rot occurs as a secondary condition of another illness or injury including poor nutrition, stress, improper environmental temperatures or overcrowding. If you believe your Bearded Dragon may be suffering from mouth rot, call your vet Southwest Las Vegas, NV for more information.
