Housing Pigeons

Pigeons are accommodated in hutches, which are large cages designed from a small shed. A hutch can be placed outdoor or indoor. The space inside the hutch is big enough to provide an area where pigeons can eat, breed, exercise, as well as being protected from the adverse weather and temperatures.

If you are still getting a hutch for your pet pigeons, find the largest cage or aviary, one which is wider than it is tall. This will allow your birds to easily stretch their wings while providing plenty of height.

The hutch should be made of non-toxic materials that are easy to clean. It must be sufficiently strong to resist dismantling by the pigeons as well as weather elements. Make sure that the birds are unable to slip their heads between the bars of the cage.

The cage should be placed in an area where the resident birds can be exposed to natural sunlight as well as easy access to shade. If it is located outdoors, one or several sides can be covered by gauze screens to reduce and/or prevent cold air drafts. You can line the hutch with old newspapers, paper towels, or paper bags.

Ask your Milford vet regarding important pet issues. You can get more information on this link.
