Getting Rid of your Akita's Skunk Smell

If your Akita comes in the house smelling like a skunk then chances are he’s been outside playing with a skunk or at least chasing one. Getting rid of that skunk smell can be a trying task especially if you don’t know where to start. Some pet owners have used home remedies like bathing their dog in tomato juice, spraying him with lemon or orange citrus, or even covering up the smell with perfumes. But there is a newer and more effective solution available. Check with your vet before trying this. If approved, bath your Akita in a mix of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of vet approved liquid soap. Soak your Akita in water and then work the mix into a thick lather. Rinse your dog after 3 to 5 minutes. Ask your vet Haleyville, AL for additional tips and suggestions.
