Eye Injuries In Cats

Eyes are very delicate parts of the body and even minor problems can easily become more serious and complicated if there is no proper veterinary intervention. Eye problems are usually caused by infection, trauma or injury, and the presence of foreign bodies.

Some important signs of eye problems include the following:

  • Eye discharge - can be watery, greenish, yellowish, and crusty
  • Cornea appears cloudy
  • Conjunctivitis - inflammation of the conjunctiva or the inner lining of the eyelids
  • Swollen eyes
  • The cat keeps his eyes partially or completely closed
  • The third eyelid is raised
  • There are cuts or tears in the eyelid

Once you notice eye discharge, soak a cotton ball in warm water and gently wipe away the discharge. If there is bleeding from the cat’s eye or eyelid, use a non-stick pad held in place by bandage tape to cover the area until your kitty can be seen by your veterinarian. If your pet’s eye is out of the socket, cover it with a damp cloth while keeping it moist with saline solution.

If you notice any change in your pet’s eyes, you should have them checked by your best pet clinic Glen Burnie, MD.
