Pet birds can be a lot of fun especially when you get to hold them, build a relationship with them, teach them tricks, and listen to them sing and talk. Canaries, however, are not the type of bird that likes to be interactive and handled. Instead, they prefer to be admired from afar. Canaries are territorial and independent birds. They do not speak, learn tricks, or cuddle. Only the males sing and they come in various colors besides yellow. Canaries require large cages with room to spread their wings and fly about. They don’t want to be out nor do they want to be held. They are usually content to just sit on their perch and sing or chirp. They do not do well with bird mirrors as they see their reflection as a threatening second bird. They’re beautiful birds, but they may not be the best pets.
