4:47 AM A Pet Dog's Basic Needs: Exercise and Activity |
Every canine has a need for adequate and regular physical activity. Lack of physical and mental stimulation has often been implicated in specific health problems and behavior issues. While some dogs require more exercise than others, most will need more than simple walks. To give you an idea how much physical activity your dog needs, try evaluating your dog’s activities and his behavior. Does your pet appear bored and restless? Does he seem to be bursting with energy all the time? Is your pooch carrying excess pounds? These are all important clues telling you that your pooch needs more exercise. Dogs also thrive with regular mental stimulation. You can hit two birds with the same stone by having regular playtime with your dog, engaging your pet in games that will challenge his physical and mental capabilities. Many pet dogs will benefit from dog sports and agility training. If you have a hound, feed his primal instinct by involving him in activities that involve tracking and nose work.
