Obesity can cause mobility issues and put your dog at risk for diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers. Thus it is important to keep your dog at a normal weight. Your dog is probably fat because of a combination of too much food and not enough exercise. Determine what your dog’s recommended calorie count should be and work to keep him within that limit. Don’t forget to include treat calories in the daily count. Consider feeding your dog a weight control formula food so he feels full while dieting. Increase your dog’s daily exercise. Walks are great and you can increase the distance and pace as your dog gets in shape. A romp in the dog park or your yard can be fun. Play with your dog to encourage lots of movement.
