Munchkin cats are among the most recent cat breeds accepted by TICA; however, the breed has not been recognized by the CFA even though these cats have been around for decades. So called because of their short legs, munchkin cats really look like your regular cat. Their short legs are attributed to a genetic manipulation rather than from human manipulation. The gene identified as responsible for their short legs have been associated with the same gene that gives Dachshunds and Welsh Corgis the same distinct feature.  Unlike these dog breeds, Munchkins are not prone to spinal problems. This may be attributed to the fact that their spine is anatomically different from that of a dog.
