8:02 AM Your Cat’s Whiskers |
Your cat’s whiskers are thick, specialized hairs that are attached to highly sensitive nerves. These whiskers give your cat enhanced sensory abilities. The whiskers grow to roughly the same width as your cat’s body. Thus she can use her whiskers to determine whether she can fit into small spaces. If your cat’s head and whiskers fit through the opening so will the rest of her body. Your cat’s whiskers help her calculate distance and height making her able to leap from surface to surface with accuracy. The whiskers pick up vibrations so your cat knows the exact location of prey whether it’s a mouse or your foot, even in the dark. Never trim your cat’s whiskers since this will cause confusion and disorientation. Old worn whiskers will fall out on their own to be replaced with new ones as needed.
