What Happens To Pets With Sedentary Lives?

Pet cats and dogs that live sedentary lives are said to be “unemployed”. With lots of pent-up energy, these pets are fertile grounds for the development of problem behaviors. They may bark and howl to their heart’s content, dig in the yard or under the fence, chew or destroy objects, and other undesirable behaviors. Boredom can be an important predisposing factor for bad habits.

Pet owners have the responsibility of providing their pets with lots of opportunities to derive physical and mental stimulation. When pets are busy, they won’t have time for any ‘monkey business’. And they won’t have excess energy to fuel undesirable behaviors. Going on regular leash walks, playing with other dogs in the park, and regular playtime are just some of the positive avenues to release energy and keep your pet off the couch.
