8:49 AM Treating FeLV in Birman Cats |
If you own a Birman or any other breed of cat then you may be aware of the FeLV virus, which is also known as the Feline Leukemia Virus. FeLV affects all breeds of cats including the Birman. There is no cure for this virus; however, having your Birman tested regularly can help detect the disease at a stage in which your cat may be able to resist the virus or at least fight it longer with early treatment. Protecting your Birman cat from secondary infections is also key as the FeLV virus can cause a suppressed immune system. In addition, cats that develop lymphoma or other types of cancer may be able to receive chemotherapy, which could lengthen their quality of life. Your vet Mt. Pleasant, SC may tell you that most FeLV treatment options are meant to help keep your cat comfortable and to provide a positive quality of life. Read more here. |
