Not only is door bolting behavior irritating, it can actually be dangerous because it means your dog is able to roam the neighborhood alone. Here are some methods you can try when it comes to eliminating this behavior.
In some cases, dogs bolt for the door because they aren’t getting enough physical exercise. Try taking your dog outside more often. Go in the back yard for a little extra playtime or go for a long walk. If your dog is tuckered out, he’ll be less likely to run for the door.
You can also retrain him, but it starts by keeping your dog in a kennel or another room any time someone is using the door. When you’re ready to practice, you’ll have to make sure that your dog is on a leash before you begin.
