The First Five Weeks of a Kitten’s Life

The birth of a litter of kittens is amazing to witness. It is hard to believe such tiny creatures will grow into full-sized cats. Kittens are about the size of an adult mouse when born and it takes approximately two weeks before they even open their beautiful eyes. As the kittens are able to move around a little more at three weeks. They are still “finding their legs”.

After four weeks, the kittens are now roaming around freely, exploring their environment and wandering away further from the security of their mother, but still going back to the mother to eat. At five weeks old, the kittens are exploring even further away from their mother, climbing up on things, investigating toys and rough-housing with each other. At five weeks, kittens can be started on cat foods (moist) and trained for the litter box.
