4:31 PM Symptoms of Epilepsy in Black Mongolian Gerbils |
Epilepsy can occur in a small percentage of Black Mongolian Gerbils; however, it is not usually fatal nor does it have lasting effects on the Gerbils. Your vet can help you understand what epileptic seizures are and what symptoms to look for in your Black Mongolian Gerbil. In general, signs of epilepsy may occur around the time your Black Mongolian Gerbil reaches puberty (i.e. 2 to 3 months of age). The frequency and severity of the seizures will generally subside around six months of age. Mild epileptic episodes may involve trance like behavior and excessive twitching of the ears and whiskers. Severe epileptic episodes may involve convulsions, stiffening muscles and even jerking of the entire body. If your Black Mongolian Gerbil is having any of these symptoms call your vet Cypress, TX immediately. If possible, during your Black Mongolian Gerbil’s seizure, try moving him away from anything that may cause him harm such as sharp edges and toys. Read more here. |
