Rewarding your dog when it behaves at the vets

Your dog needs to know that good behaviour when visiting the vet for an examination is worthy of a treat or reward for such good behaviour.

The vet has enough to do without having to worry about controlling your dog and working at the same time. As the dog’s owner, you are responsible for keeping your dog under control and still while the vet completes the examination.

If your dog is fighting or struggling to get away from the vet, then everyone’s job is harder and the exam will take longer than is necessary.

Once your dog learns that good behaviour is rewarded, it will be more eager to please you and receive its treat once the visit is over.

This is good practice for your dog to also learn to behave in other places, not just the vet’s. This site of the vet Loveland can help you to learn more.
