7:40 AM Keep Small Objects Away from Your Dog |
If you own a dog, it’s important to remember to keep small objects such as jewelry, small toys, loose change, etc. off of the floor and low tables or counter tops. Dogs love to explore and often explore objects of interest by putting them in their mouth or even trying to swallow them. It can be dangerous if your dog swallows anything not intended for pets. For instance, if your beagle swallows a child size plastic ring or even a cloth pony tail holder, he could be in serious trouble. Signs of danger include lack of appetite, dehydration, and diarrhea that doesn’t go away with regular vet treatment. An x-ray will be needed to identity objects in the stomach. If the objects pass through the stomach they can become stuck in the intestines. Surgery is often required. Call your pet clinic Westminster, MD if you think your dog has swallowed something he shouldn’t have. |
