Inappropriate Elimination – Medical Causes

If your well-behaved and housebroken dog suddenly starts eliminating in inappropriate places around the home, it may be brought about by an increased urgency and/or frequency of the need to relieve itself. Health conditions such as the inflammation and/or irritation of the large intestine may bring on this behavior. Diarrhea brought about by the presence of parasites, bacteria, and viruses may also cause an increase in the stool’s fluid volume, as well as the urgency to defecate in between potty walks. These situations are most common among puppies and debilitated dogs with compromised immune systems. It is for this reason that any responsible pet owner should understand the importance of regular deworming and timely vaccination of pet dogs, based on the advice of their veterinarian.

Dogs that suffer from constipation, whatever may be the cause, may not be able to fully eliminate during their potty time, and may therefore eliminate at inappropriate times and locations. Incontinence in dogs is also an important cause of inappropriate elimination.

Bring your pet to your Craig Road animal hospital for a thorough checkup, appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
