Getting the right litter box is essential. Many cats do not like covered litter boxes because they can trap odors. Instead, choose a large, deep litter box and keep the lid off.

Keeping the box clean is also essential. If the box is too full, your cat may try and go potty elsewhere. Scoop the box each and every day, and plan to replace all the litter in the box at least once or twice a month.

Litter box placement should be considered as well. Don’t place the box in a noisy area of the home. It should also be located in an area that is easy to access.
