How to Bathe Chickens

If you keep chickens, you know how quickly they can get dirty. Unfortunately, bathing chickens is easier said than done.

There’s no need to bring your chickens indoors, as they’re likely to make an even bigger mess, but that means you’ll have to keep an eye on the weather. Choose a warm, sunny day so your chickens don’t get chilled.

Prepare three tubs or buckets. In the first, put Ivory Liquid soap and Mule Team Borax in warm water. Fill the second bucket with clean water and make up a vinegar and water mixture in the third bucket.

Submerge the first chicken’s body in the first bucket, keeping its head and face dry. Do not scrub. Simply plunge your bird up and down in the bucket. Then, repeat with the next two buckets. Towel drying is a good idea to prevent your bird from getting dirty again.
