Feeding Chameleons

As with any pet, chameleons need proper care and veterinary attention for a long and healthy life. These flamboyant reptiles are quite delicate, and have very definite requirements that need to be satisfied. Without proper care and nutrition, your chameleon can easily suffer from health problems.

Chameleons are carnivores. You can give your pet a cricket diet. However, crickets should not be more than 50% of your pet chameleon’s diet. It will also benefit from commercial gut-loaded food as well as green and leafy veggies.

Spray the prey items with calcium supplement during every other feeding. For variety, you can also give other species of insects and larvae. Beetles and frequent feeding of mealworms should not be done, for they are difficult to digest.  Adult chameleons are fed once every day, while juveniles require several small feedings per day.

Bring your pet Chameleon to a West Greenwich veterinary clinic for a regular wellness check. Visit the website of West Greenwich Animal Hospital to know more about your pet's needs and set an appointment.
