6:17 PM Diffusing your long-haired cats problem with static electricity |
As any long-haired cat owner can tell you, a cat with an abundance of hair can be affected by static electricity on a regular basis. To your cat, this is an annoying and sometimes startling experience, just walking along and minding its own business and ZAP…. It frightens your cat and if it happens enough times, can become annoying. Your cat’s fur is responding to the overly dry conditions in your home (which usually increases in the winter months when there is heat on) but there are a couple of things you can do to help your cat avoid having static and minor heart attacks. A humidifier puts moisture in the air and will help with those days that your home is overly dry. You can even get a little spray bottle (like the ones you would use to mist plants) and spritz your cat a little bit, just enough to lightly moisten its hair, and this will also induce your cat to clean its fur.
