Cats Can Also Suffer From Acne and Pimples

Many cat parents may be surprised to hear that their kitty is suffering from feline acne. Small growths on their cat’s face and/or chins often prompts the owners to bring their pet cats to the vet especially if these small blackheads or pimples just won’t go away. Although this is not really a serious problem, your kitty will still benefit from proper treatment and attention. Without which, the acne can spread or even worsen. Secondary bacterial infection can cause the pimples to be filled up with pus, causing a cat’s face to swell.

While there are various causes of feline acne, poor hygiene and exposure to dirt are important trigger factors.  Dirt and oils fill up hair follicles thereby obstructing them, and causing the formation of pimples and blackheads. Since these are quite itchy and uncomfortable, a cat will soon be scratching the area, thereby making things worse. Intense scratching can lead to irritation and injury, allowing bacteria to invade the area, making everything worse. Another important sign of feline acne are scabs or crusts under the cat’s chin.
