Regular cage cleaning is very important to keep your pocket pet safe and healthy. Preparing what you will need beforehand will help make the task easier. Cleaning supplies you are using for your pet’s cage should never be mixed with other household cleaning supplies. Never wash the cage or the cleaning tools on sink or tubs which are used for food preparation or human bathing.

There are three general types of cages for pet hamsters—wire cages, glass cages, and plastic cages. The best enclosure for hamsters should have a solid floor and not one made of wire mesh for this can injure your pet’s feet. The cage should be at least 19 x 19 square inches, with a height of 6 inches.

Wire Cages

This type of enclosure has the advantage of having its residents use the wire for climbing, a natural hamster behavior.
