7:43 PM Why Hamsters Can Be a Challenging Pet for Children |
When it comes to caged critters, it seems like children and hamsters go together like peanut butter and jelly. There’s no denying that hamsters are cute, and they can teach a child responsibility, but they can be a challenging pet too. Hamsters aren’t very social critters. As a matter of fact, when it comes to Syrian hamsters, they can’t live with other animals at all. That may not be a big deal, that is, until your child tries to build a bond with his new furry friend. Hamsters aren’t born naturally curious about humans. They’re born afraid. After all, they’re a tiny little critter and we’re so huge! This can make them very distrustful and standoffish. A child will have to spend a lot more time socializing a hamster than he might socializing other animals. For tips on socializing a hamster, click here, or contact your veterinarian Somerville, MA.
