3:21 AM Why Do Cats like to Be up High? |
Although there are a few cats that prefer lower spaces, most cats enjoy the thrill of being up high. For many cats, the need to be up high is instinctual. Many modern cat breeds descend from cats who climbed trees to help them reach their prey. Smaller species also climbed trees to avoid predators. Cats love to climb for fun! Especially when it comes to small spaces, climbing to the tops of bookshelves and tables helps them burn energy. Their musculoskeletal system has evolved to enable them to become the perfect climbers, so they want to do it often. Instead of discouraging this behavior in your feline friend, encourage it by providing many vertical spaces for your cat to climb. Cat trees are always a great choice, but sturdy shelves hung on the walls can also do the trick. If you want to learn more about this curious behavior, contact your vet Daybreak. |
