10:27 AM What is Hypoglycemia in Balinese Cats ? |
Hypoglycemia can occur in cats of all breeds and ages including the Balinese cat. It is often associated with cats that have diabetes; however, it can occur in healthy cats or cats with other illnesses as well. Hypoglycemia typically develops when a cat’s glucose level is abnormally low. When this happens your cat may have a sudden decrease in energy, change in appetite, appear weak, restless, or confused. The condition is often the result of too much insulin. However, that is not always the case. Experts have found that hypoglycemia can often be the result of an underlying health problem. For instance, a cat’s brain needs a constant supply of glucose in order to function. An underlying illness could be preventing this from happening, which in turn triggers hypoglycemia. Both diabetes and non-diabetic cats should be monitored for signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia. Talk with your veterinarian Wake Forest, NC for more details. |
