7:31 AM What is Degenerative Myelopathy and does it affect French Bulldogs? |
There are numerous breeds that are prone to developing Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) in old age. Among the breeds is the French Bulldog. If you own a French Bulldog, it’s important to watch your little one closely as he ages in case he develops signs of DM. DM is an incurable disease of the nerves and spinal cord, which can cause loss of mobility and numbness in the legs. In the initial stages it often takes on the signs of arthritis or lameness in the hind legs. In some bulldogs it can progress slowly while in others the symptoms may worsen quickly with an increase in numbness in the backend and eventual loss of feeling completely. Most signs of illness are seen around the ages of eight or older. If you suspect your bulldog is experiencing lameness in the hind end, contact your vet Frisco, TX immediately. |
