What Documents Do I Need For My Horse to Travel ?

Are you planning to show your horse or move him across state lines? If so, then you will need to make sure you have all of the right travel documents or else your horse will be stranded with no place to go. When crossing state lines, horse trailers are required to stop at the Agriculture Station. Here, the driver of the trailer must present papers showing proof of vaccinations of the horses. The papers are usually a vet issued paper or health certificate that state’s the horse’s vaccination history and the current health status of the horse. The health certificate or CVI – Certificate of Veterinary Inspection – shows the horse’s health and vaccination history. In addition, paperwork showing the Coggins test results is needed. Coggins tests for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). The horse should test negative to travel. For more information, talk with your Mt. Airy, MD veterinarian. Visit this website for additional advice.
