Typical Behavior of Male Cats

Typical male cat behavior is distinctly exhibited in intact male cats. Neutering has been shown to reduce and/or eliminate certain behaviors that many pet owners find a challenge to deal with.

Urine Spraying

Male cats engage in urine spraying to mark their territory. The scent that they leave behind will serve as a warning to other cats. Spraying is also a way of advertising their sexual prowess especially during the mating season when male cats vie for the attention of female cats.

Urine spraying may also indicate specific health problems such as the presence of kidney stones and urinary tract infection.

Wandering off

Intact male cats are notorious for wandering off, sometimes reaching several miles away from home. This is one important reason you may not see any sign of your pet for days. Male cats wander to increase his territory and/or seek out a female in heat. The pheromones that a female cat gives off during estrus can still be detected by male cats more than a mile away.

Keep your pet healthy and active by bringing him regularly to a veterinarians Indianapolis.
