Things to Do Before Bringing Home Your New Pooch

Regardless of whether you are adopting a puppy or adult dog from the local animal shelter or getting a puppy from a reputable breeder, it is very important to prepare the entire household for the new pet’s arrival. Doing so will help ensure there will be lesser hassles and stress during the puppy’s first few days in his new home.

Dog-proofing the area where your new pooch will be staying for the most part of his first few months will prevent accidents. Tape loose electrical cords to baseboards, remove indoor plants, transfer breakables to inaccessible places, store household chemicals in cabinets which can be kept locked, install baby gates, and set up the crate (especially if you are planning to crate-train your pooch).

Although your new pet will need time to adjust to his new environment, training should start as soon as possible. To be consistent with commands, create a list that everyone in the family should use when interacting with your dog. Using the same vocabulary will help prevent confusion and make it easier for your pet to learn his commands quickly

Aside from socialization, bringing your pet to a veterinary clinic Carmel for regular checkups will ensure that your puppy will grow up healthy and well-behaved.
