6:04 PM Teaching your Dog to Swim |
Cooling off during the sweltering days of summer will be much more fun if you can have your canine friend as your swimming buddy. Teaching your dog to swim is a great idea especially if there are a lot of dog-friendly lakes or pools within the vicinity. You may have to teach your dog some basic lessons in swimming, particularly if he has never experienced the activity before. To avoid distractions to your dog, you must choose an area of the lake, river or pool wherein there is not much noise and activity. You can start by walking beside him in shallow areas and let him get used to having his feet wet. Your dog’s safety must always be considered. Never leave your dog in the water unattended. He should be outfitted with his own life vest or jacket and should be leashed all the time to keep him from swimming too far out. Giving him lots of verbal and physical praise plus treats will help your dog associate swimming with fun and positive times. Keep your dog healthy and active by bringing him regularly to a veterinary clinic Vista. Click here for more information. |
