6:02 PM Should you offer your cat milk? |
Your cat needs your help to stay healthy and happy in your care. This means taking the time to determine what is ideal to offer her for a treat, and which items you should stay away from. Milk tends to fall in the latter category. Young kitten’s digestive systems are designed to handle the processing of milk from their mothers. To do this, they produce a special enzyme to break down the milk. As these kittens grow older and begin to eat solid food, their digestive system stops producing this enzyme as it seems to no longer be needed. This leaves adult cats lactose intolerant for the most part, and they will have some discomfort if they ingest milk products. Because of this, it’s best to forgo these types of snacks for your pet.
