Red Bellied parrots are a sub species of the Poicephalus parrots. They are small birds with large parrot personalities. Unlike parrots, however, the Red Bellied parrot is relatively quiet and doesn’t squawk making it an excellent bird for apartment living. The Red Bellied parrot gets its name from the red belly of the male. The female has a green belly. Colors develop making males and females distinguishable by around 4 to 6 months of age. The Red Bellied parrot is great for families, but requires time and attention. They tend to be nippy and need to be trained. They can also become a one person bird so socialization and handling by all family members is key. The Red Bellied parrot is around 9 inches in length and weighs 7 to 8 ounces. Your veterinarian care North Dallas, TX can tell you this bird lives between 25 and 35 years. |
