Painful Ear Infections In Cats

Ear infections in cats are not really common, but cats with ear infections often suffer from pain, and possibly ear damage if the problem is not addressed as soon as possible. The main culprits of ear infection in cats include allergies, ear mites, abscess, and abnormal growth along the ear passages. Ear mites are very contagious and quite common among kittens. Cats that get into fights often end up with a bite wound or scratch that can possibly become an abscess if not cleaned and treated.

Symptoms of ear infection in cats

  • There is a noticeably dark discharge in the opening of the ear canal
  • Ears may be painful when touched
  • The cat may persistently scratch at the affected ear which can possibly lead to injury
  • A “wet” sound may be heard when massaging the ears
  • Incoordination
  • Tilting of the head
  • Pupils are usually uneven in size

Your Marietta, GA veterinarian may use a special instrument called an otoscope to take a closer look at the cat’s ear canal. The underlying problem needs to be established first before the right treatment regimen is given. Visit this link to know more: http://kennesawvet.com/
