Origins of the Belgian Malinois

In the 1800s several Belgian trainers were breeding a series of sheep herding dogs in an effort to perfect the line. What they came up with was the Belgian Malinois (Mal-En-Waw). This particular dog can way between 44 and 66 pounds and live 10 to 12 years. It’s dark ears and muzzle along with its fawn or mahogany coloring gives it a close resemblance to the German Shepherd. However, the Malinois proved to be much more than a sheep herding and livestock protecting breed. Trainers soon discovered the superior intelligence and intense work ethic of the Malinois. The dog began to be used to protect people more than livestock. In no time at all the Malinois was being imported into the U.S. from Belgium, Switzerland and France to be used as in military and law enforcement agencies. Malinois dogs require daily exercise and intense training on a consistent basis. Your veterinary clinic Indianapolis, IN can tell you more.
