10:24 AM Life Stage Diets and Your Cat |
Cat food manufacturers offer a variety of foods that are formulated to meet your cat’s health needs through the various stages of her life. Kitten food offers the extra protein she needs for her developing brain and growing bones and muscles. However, once your cat reaches about one year of age, kitten food contains too many calories and could make her obese. You will need to switch to an adult formula food. You can feed your cat this food for most of her life. When she starts showing signs of aging, consider switching to a senior or mature formula food. There are other foods that address specific issues such as weight control, urinary difficulties, or hairball control. Some foods may only be available by prescription especially for more complicated health issues. Switch foods over time so you don’t cause digestive issues.
