8:25 AM Giving Your Cat Subcutaneous Fluids |
Your cat may need extra fluids because of dehydration, liver or kidney issues, or a number of other medical conditions. If your vet recommends subcutaneous fluid therapy, you will receive all the supplies and a demonstration to perform this therapy at home. Ensure that the house is quiet during therapy to keep your cat calm. Trim your cat’s nails to reduce injuries if she lashes out at you. The kitchen counter is a great place for this therapy. You can hang the fluid bag on a cabinet knob above your cat on the counter. Wrap her in a towel if she may scratch. Keep a hand on her at all times. Connect the syringe and hose to the fluid bag as you were shown. Pinch the skin and insert the needle. You can use your forearm to press the bag if needed.
